Speaking and listening
"Say it" exercises don't hear me
Vamos understands Spanish using speech recognition on your iPhone. On iOS 26 or later, tap Download Spanish speech (on the exercise, in Settings → Audio & practice, or on the Talk with a local screen) and it works offline from then on.
On older iOS, add Spanish dictation: open the iPhone's Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → Español (España), and make sure Enable Dictation is on. Also check that Vamos has Microphone and Speech Recognition access under Settings → Vamos.
It says "Didn't catch that"
Speak at a normal volume and wait a moment before tapping stop, so the last words are caught. You don't need to hold the phone close. In a noisy place you can always type your answer instead.
The Spanish voice sounds robotic
Phrases without a recording use your iPhone's Spanish voice. For a much better one, go to Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → Spanish (Spain) and download an Enhanced or Premium voice.
Talk with a local
What does the subscription include?
Spoken role-play with all four characters (tapas bar, hotel, train station and pharmacy), at a slow or natural pace, with about 25 conversations a month. It starts with a one-week free trial. The rest of Vamos doesn't need it.
I reached the monthly limit
Each subscription includes a fair-use number of replies per calendar month. The count resets on the 1st of the month. If you hit the limit regularly, let us know.
Conversations don't connect
Talk with a local needs an internet connection. If it says the online speech service isn't available, either connect to the internet or download Spanish speech in the app, or switch to typing. If it keeps failing, email us with the time it happened.
How do I cancel?
Open the iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Vamos Conversations → Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least a day before the trial or period ends to avoid being charged. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
Purchases
How do I restore my walking tours on a new iPhone?
Sign in with the same Apple Account, then open Settings in Vamos and tap Restore purchases (it's on the purchase screen too). Tours are shared with your Family Sharing group.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
What's free?
The whole Spanish course, flashcards, review and the Phrasebook. You can browse every walking tour and try the first stop of each city for free. Cities are €4.99 each or €9.99 for all of Spain, including cities added later.
Walking tours
Do tours work offline?
The stories, the Spanish and arrival at stops work without a connection. Photos download the first time you open a stop, and Snap a sight compares your photo with them, so tap Download photos for offline use on a city before you go. Map tiles and walking directions need data, as in Apple Maps.
It doesn't notice when I reach a stop
Allow location access "While Using the App" for Vamos in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services, and keep the app open during the walk. You can always open the next stop by hand.
Your progress
Can I change the language I learn from?
Yes. In Settings, change I speak to English, German or French. Everything switches at once and your progress is kept.
Will my progress move to a new phone?
Progress is stored on your iPhone and moves with an iCloud or iTunes backup of the phone. Vamos has no accounts, so there is nothing to sign in to.
